This gallery has the photos used in the 2006 calendar published by the Westford Conservation Trust.

The Westford Conservation Trust was established in 1984 for the purpose of preserving open space and other natural resources. Westford is a beautiful town and is committed to a balance between development and conservation. The calendar was prepared to illustrate some of the results of that commitment.

The Westford Conservation Trust is a not for profit, volunteer organization that is supported solely by private contributions.

Frank Winters > The Grassy Pond on fire during the month of October. The setting sun illuminated the scene creating a gorgeous reflection on the water of the pond. This is the cover photo for the Westford Conservation Trust's 2006 calendar. The Grassy Pond conservation area in Westford Massachusetts is a place of beauty in the fall. This scene was there for maybe 5 minutes last fall.
Frank Winters > Acker Conservation Land After a Snow Storm. This is January's photo. This is the first parcel of land donated to the trust. It's located at the intersection of Depot St. and Plain Rd. (see our Westford Trails booklet, available at the Roudenbush, or the Trust's web site for maps). Acker remains one of the most naturally beautiful areas of Westford. Walk along Stony Brook and reflect on the beauty of natural places and the creatures that inhabit them. "In the vaunted works of Art, The master-stroke is Nature's part." Ralph Waldo Emerson

Frank Winters > Slifer Conservation Land on a Sunny Winter’s Day (February's photo in the Westford Conservation Trust's 2006 calendar) The Slifer property was acquired by the town of Westford in 1987. Once formally landscaped, the property still features a variety of flowers and ornamental trees, including huge, must-see rhododendrons that are in full bloom late May - June. The Slifer Conservation Land is located at the corner of Keyes and Gould Roads. Frank Winters > Late Winter Storm -- Stony Brook in Acker Land (The March photo in the Westford Conservation Trust's 2006 calendar) This was the scene on March 13th, 2005. A late winter snowfall dressed Stony Brook up as if for its own ice party! Later that month skunk cabbage started to grow -- one of the first things to come to life in the woods. This may not be your favorite plant, but, as an early sign of Spring, it’s always a welcome sight. “ The way a crow/Shook down on me/The dust of snow/From a hemlock tree Has given my heart/A change of mood/And saved some part/Of a day I had rued.” A Dust of Snow by Robert Frost
Frank Winters > First Growth on the Forest Floor (Skunk Cabbage). I came across this plant life emerging in the woods of Acker Conservation Land on March 29, 2005. Its the first new plant life that I noticed in the woods that spring. Wonderful to see nature's cycle in evidence. This is skunk cabbage (Symplocarpus foetidus). Frank Winters > This family of Geese was found in the Shipley swamp area at the western edge of Nabnasset Lake during the Spring of 2005. A supplemental photo for he month of May in the Westford Conservation Trust's 2006 calendar.
